Artists’ meeting on artistic research in Contemporary Circus
Artists’ meeting on artistic research in contemporary Circus
Puntata Zero is an idea for contemporary circus artists to meet and develop models and practices for integrating artistic research in the field of circus and to create a substrate/grounding where circus artists can develop research processes that are not necessarily aimed at artistic production.
” a research exists to be universal, or both, shared and accumulated. A research builds a common universe, a heritage of knowledge, mistakes and public attempts to serve the community of artists.”
Reflections with Jean Michel Guy during Puntata Zero #1
Between 2024 and 2026, with the support of Creative Europe, we have the honor and pleasure to be one of the partners in the “Digital Soul Protocol” project
DSP is a European project that aims to create collaborative protocols between artists, festivals and the cloud, with the goal of building a larger community for the exchange of knowledge and materials.
The initiative aims to democratize performing arts funding by creating a digital ecosystem where artists and supporters can work together.
Using Web3 technology, DSP enables circus artists, festivals and cultural spaces to offer digital tokens. These tokens give audiences the opportunity to actively participate in the creative process, transforming viewers from mere consumers to co-creators.
Through the tokenization of art initiatives, DSP opens new avenues for sustainable funding and deeper engagement, making each supporter an integral part of the artist’s creative journey
Between 2020 and 2023, with support from Creative Europe, large-scale project “The Sphere”
The three-year project focused on a new business model and digitization for the circus and performing arts sector has made it possible to support the creations of many artists. As an Italian partner, we supported the creation of derivative performances of Andrea Salustri’s “Materia,” Maria Baranaukaitè’s Materia 2.0 and Utka Gavuzzo’s Materia 3.0 and offered a creation residency to Cecilia Manfrini. The Sphere was conceived by A Radar Styled Novel, in collaboration with: Teatro da Didascalia (Portugal), Maison de jonglages (France), Cordata F.O.R (Italy), Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden), Berlin Circus Festival (Germany), Lithuanian Dance Information Centre (LT), High Acres Farm (US), The Nordic House on Faroe Islands (FO), La Serre – Arts Vivant (CA).
Very shortly we will update you on upcoming developments through the continuation of the project in the next three years-Digital Soul Protocol.

Translation
by Gaia Vimercati, Maristella Tesio, Teresa Noronha Feio
Almost 10 years later, Bauke Lievens and Seb Kann’s Open Letters to the Circus arrives in Italy. Published by Publishing & Entertainment and translated by Gaia Vimercati, Maristella Tesio and Noronha Feio, Open Letters marked a watershed within contemporary circus and is still one of the most widely read and discussed texts by circus makers everywhere. Bauke Lievens and Seb Kann redefine the boundaries of performance, invite artistic responsibility, and inaugurate a heated and timely dialogue about art that interrogates all languages of creation. Between the need to redefine the why of our practices and the deconstruction of circus’ founding myths, they pose a crucial question to those who question the contemporary: whose job is it to build the future? In Turin, the translators meet the public and present the translated text for the first time in Italy.
